What is NYC SHRM?
NYC SHRM (New York City Society for Human Resource Management) is the premier professional association for HR leaders, practitioners, and business partners. As an affiliate chapter of SHRM National, NYC SHRM provides opportunities for HR professionals to connect, learn, and grow through networking events, educational programs, special interest groups, and volunteer leadership opportunities. Our mission is to advance the HR profession and support the development of people and workplaces across the NYC community.
How is NYC SHRM affiliated with SHRM National?
NYC SHRM is an official chapter affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world’s largest HR professional society. While SHRM National provides resources, certification, and advocacy at the national and global level, NYC SHRM focuses on serving HR professionals within the New York City metropolitan area. Members of NYC SHRM gain access to local networking, professional development, and community-building opportunities, while also benefiting from SHRM National’s broader resources and thought leadership.

NYC SHRM welcomes anyone with an interest in the field of human resources and people management. Membership is open to:

Do I need to be a SHRM National member to join NYC SHRM?
Yes. NYC SHRM is a dual membership chapter, which means you must be a member of both SHRM National and NYC SHRM to join.
The only exceptions are:
- In-Transition Memberships – Available for HR professionals between roles.
- Student Memberships – Available for those enrolled in HR, business, or related academic programs.
