Rob founded Mattern & Associates after years of providing outsourced solutions to law firms. Rob recognized a need in the marketplace for an unbiased consultant to act in the best interest of the firm when procuring back-office solutions that included people, process, and technology. This resulted in the Mattern Method whereby an assessment is performed for current service delivery methodologies, a consultative report is delivered for how to perform the services more efficiently and cost-effectively, with the firm ultimately deciding whether to deliver these services in-house or look to the expertise of an outsourced provider. Mattern then creates a competitive situation through a tightly managed RFP process, normalizes the provider solutions for easy comparison, and negotiates the contract on the Firm's behalf using a proprietary database of industry benchmarks including market-based salary information, base equipment charges, and click-based maintenance charges. Mattern has used this process to perform over 350 projects in the areas of Outsourcing, Equipment Acquisition, Records and Information Management, Office Supplies, and Off-Site Records Storage. Mattern also stays involved throughout the life of the service provider contract to ensure compliance with pricing and defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Mattern & Associates has since migrated into middle-office solutions with its expansion into Information Governance, Document Processing, and E-Discovery workflow and charge-back assessments. Rob publishes widely including recently in the Wall Street Journal, Law Technology News, and Legal Management magazine.
